SERENA WILLIAMS COVERS NEW YORK MAGAZINE
New York, NY - As the oldest women on record to hold the WTA's no. 1 spot, Serena Williams continues to demonstrate why she's on top of Women's tennis. As she makes her way toward achieving her first Calendar Grand Slam in New York at the 2015 U.S. Open, all eyes have been on her - and she's definitely giving her fans something to look at.
The 33-year-old athletic phenom posed for a shoot with New York Magazine this month and knocked it all the way out of the park. Her athletic prowess is one of the main components of her game, but the shoot makes it clear what she's working with in the physical department: chiseled abs, strong legs and the flexibility of a 20-year-old.
There was controversy about the tennis star's body after her recent Wimbledon win, which saw some comparing her body to that of a man. But, the New York shoot has silenced those critical voices as anyone can see that she's all woman, just endowed with features that are, well ... "the better to beat " her opponents with, "my dear."
Many came to her defense during the unfortunate incident, including comedian D.L. Hughley, who couldn't understand how Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, was being celebrated and called "beautiful" as a transgendered woman, while Serena Williams' gender was being questioned due to her powerful physique. Chat fest shows like The View and The Talk also chimed in, denoucing what was being said by the 21 Grand Slam winner's detractors, writing their comments off as certainly sexist, but possibly racist as well in that she doesn't have the typical European body that the tennis world tends to celebrate.
Serena Williams' winning ways are due to a combination of years of training, nearly unparalleled will AND the glorious body that she revealed during her shoot. She's likely have it no other way and we say, "bravo," Serena; you are strong and you are certainly beautiful with this picture being worth more than "a thousand words."
